Jorgie Buchan as Isobel in An Experiment with an Air Pump
An Experiment with an Air Pump
Written by Shelagh Stevenson, Directed by Iain Davie (2023)
Playing Isobel was one of the hardest roles I have ever performed. It tested all of my acting skills and challenged me in a lot of ways I didn't expect. It really called for me to delve into the character completely and leave myself at the door. It was one of those pinnacle characters you play throughout your career that changes you as a performer.
Jorgie Buchan as one of the pheasents in Buke of the Howlat (Left)
Findhorn Bay Arts Festival. Adapted by Morna Young, Directed by Ben Harrison (2018)
This was my very first try at acting. I was 16 and had just left school with no idea what I wanted to do - until I enrolled at Moray UHI College for Theatre and Performance, which was completely on a whim! I had no idea why I got the gut feeling to enroll, not ever having done acting before and being incredibly shy - but I like to think it was the universe telling me it had a plan. I was so incredibly nervous to perform and nearly dropped out! But I am so glad I didn't.

Jorgie Buchan as the 'Queen of Edinburgh'
Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Written & Directed by Ian Dunn (2023)
With the excellent guidance and mind of our writer and director, Ian, he pushed me with this bold, brash and high-energy character. I had sometimes felt like I was in a box with the type of character I could play, always being cast as the victim or the one with the tragic backstory, a character which I love playing - but didn't challenge in the way playing the 'Queen of Edinburgh' did. Being loud and unapologetic in this role really helped me come out of my acting shell and is something I try to take into all of my acting roles.
Jorgie Buchan as 'Pixie Katcher'
Well Played
Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Written by Josie Rose Embleton & Directed by Claire Wootton (2024)
Another super fun Fringe. Learning a New York accent for this role was challenging at times but overall such a good skill to learn. Pixie was confident, cocky and knew what she wanted. Overall, a diva. This was probably the most fun I've had playing a character and opened my eyes to these types of farcical plays.
